hey everbody.

I've been surfing for about 2 weeks now and I can catch waves and ride straight towards shore and do bottom turns both ways. I have a problem; however, when it comes to actually angling along the wave ahead of the white water. Everytime I catch a wave and stand up, I seem to just speed down the wave and eventually into white water. CAn anyone give me advice as to how to angle along the wave? Also, when catching steeper waves that are about to break, how to you keep your board from pearling and still manage to angle along the wave? I see many surfers catch waves late, and still manage to surf along wave. I surf a rober august 7'6 by the way. Any info would be appreciated :D

angling along the wave - it helps if you take off at an angle or make a hard bottom turn driving up the face

taking off on a steep wave is trickey with a longboard/mal and takes a lot of experience to make the landing.

Not sure if I am reading this correctly. Are you angling on your takeoff? If not, do so.

It seems that your terms of a bottom turn and mine may be a bit different. If you are doing a bottom turn then you would have yourslef set up for riding the face. I will make the assumption that when call it a bottom turn you are abel to turn on your board.

To get the turn in paddel at a slight angel in the direction you chosse to go. Once you pop up turn your head in the direction you desire to go with a slight turn of the uper body with it. This will cause you to place a littel more weight on your back foot and guide the board with your front foot. The foot work will all come about with no thought by turning your head in the direction you desire to go and a slight shift of your upper boddy in that direction.

Good luck. Surrfing become a lot funner when you ride a green face.

sorry guys. My mistake. When i said bottom turn, i meant actually turning at the bottom of the drop, not actually turning back up the face of the wave which what a bottom turn is defined as. I will angle my board more on takeoff and will keep in mind that catching steeper waves on min mal is really hard. thanks for your advice guys.
