Okay, i have been reading alot of topics just like this one, and i havent found out what's a matter yet. What im having a problem with is standing fully up on my board. Sometimes i can get up right away, and other times i just get up on my knee's ( 60% on knees, and 40% all the way up ). I have been putting my board on my bed every night and practicing getting up, and i have been surfing for about 5 months now. I have a 6'1. and befor i had a 6'2. But on both i could stand up..well only if i was lucky.
Even my friends say they dont know whats wrong. I get enough speed mostly everytime, the waves are perfect and i still usually get up to my knees, and when im on my knees i try to jump up, but then i fall, i just get so pissed and i just wanna quit. But im sure ill get the hang of it sooner or later, just if anyone has any suggestions i'd like to hear them.

Thanks.

more practise

Oh and try to make an effort not to go to the knees ever. This will only hinder progress. Every time you pop up you are conflicting between going to the knees and straight to the feet resulting in your problem.

Best thing to do is before you paddle out is is mentally say to yourself "I WILL NOT GO TO MY KNEES" Sounds stupid but i worked out a lot of bad habbits doing that.

Keep the stoke.

If you've committed to going after that wave, why go to your knees? That would be like driving a grand prix car with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake! If you commit, go for it, practice your kneeless take offs at home on the floor. Do a couple of hundred and the awkwardness you will initially feel will evaporate. You'll be getting directly onto your feet, no more slow take offs wasting time going to your knees. I know, it's the natural thing to do, SO DON'T DO IT!

If you find yourself on your knees just get off the wave as quick as you can and go back out and try again to pop up correctly. As Otter said it is the natural thing to try to do(going to your knees) but your going to have to get the mindset "No Knees". Now that your in the habit of going to your knees it is going to be tougher to break and maybe more frustrating for awhile but the sooner you break that habit the quicker your going to have a lot more fun.
