I'm having trouble popping up on my shortboard. I am totally new to surfing (but have been bodyboarding since I was 5) and have only been out about 5 times. Help please?

what exactly is your prob?
find somewhere where theres a slope that would simulate taking the drop, pretend to paddle, keeping your head up looking at where you want to go. pretend the waves a left, look to your left
imagine the waves behind you feel the push, place your hands at the bottom of the rib cage, continue looking left, push until your arms are locked out, swing your legs underneath you in a pendulum motion, dont drag asthis will unstabilize the board, easy as pissing in bed
dont start off on a shortboard, save yourself some grief and get a mini-mal

yeah I would try hiring/borrowing a larger board like a minimal to get started on then work your way down if you can.
