Hi surfer bob, welcome to Surfing Waves,

First go and have a read of all the surfing lessons that are on the main site. There is plenty of really useful information for anyone looking to learn to surf.
If you have any questions about anything then post here again.
If you are waiting for summer you can always use this time to get fit and ready for surfing.

Yeah gettin fit is a good idea as surfing is a very physical sport. I always try to keep fit when i'm not surfing. you shoud find a mate to go joggin with or somethin like that.

when you first try surfing, just have a loada fun. when i first learnt they nearly had to drag me out the water 'cause i was having such a great time (and my surf lesson had ended)! the more fun you have, the quicker you progress (i reckon), 'cause you're so stoked, you just push youself harder and harder. thats my tip anyway :)

i'll keep that in mind. i've read the lessons and ive taken up walking (about 2 miles a night) and ive started swimming again. i'd take up jogging .......... but i'm awful at running!
