hi, well basically the story with me is is that when i first started surfing i went regular, but in between then and now i learned to snowboard, at which i am definitely goofy, now i went back surfing i tried to change to goofy, because i figured when i get to riding and turnin along unbroken waves it would come much easier (i have only surfed for 12 days and am just starting to pop up on unbroken waves) but i find the goofy pop so unnatural and harder than the regular one, im guessing just because i'm used to it, so i stay with regular, is that just being lazy or should i put in the hard work now for future benifits with learning the goofy pop up?

Do whatever feels right for you........

If regular is comfortable on a surfboard, then stay with it.........no point in making life more complicated just for the sake of it.......

I know people who snowboard goofy but surf regular. There seems to be no ryme or reason to it.

However from my own experience i started surfing goofy footed. Because that felt natural - but everytime in my head i imagined me doing any carving i couldnt picture it goofy - so i switched to regular and found it awkward and strange but it was so the right choice as now i look back it was blatantly clear i was always regular footed

It's the same thing with martial arts. Just because someone is left handed doesn't neccesarily mean they'll fight southpaw, or vica versa. An instructor I trained under ages ago had a brilliant method of settling the question in anyone who was unsure.

He'd make them stand with their feet together and their eyes closed, then push them quite hard from either the chest or the shoulders so they're forced to take a step forward or back instinctively. Whichever foot they put out to balance (i.e push them forwards and they step forward with their left foot) is their lead foot.

Long winded way of saying roll with whatever's the most confortable - your body is good at letting you know what's right and what's not.

My wife surfs goofy and snowboards regular, works fine for her. Just do what feels right. It'll make it easier to ride switch on a snowboard as well.

I would just go with what feels natural. I read some place if you are going to slide on a piece of ice, which foot are you going to put out in front? That would be your forward foot on the board. Stone Fox's way is a good one too.

IMO since you are just starting out I would go with what feels right.

Not that I can skateboard very well.... but...
I surf regular and skated goofy. Then I spent months switching to regular on a skateboard. Complete waste of time

Just go with what feels natural. Dont think about it too hard.

I am a spaz when doing anything goofy, but occasionally practicing opposite footedness (sp?) goes a long way to improve confidence and coordination in regular stance, skaters can attest to this.

You could start up a poll, round up some numbers from the locals here and make a determination.
