new to surfing HELP

Hi all who view

I am taking up surfing and would like to no what board i should buy

i am 14
i am short 5ft
i am medium build
i live in cornwall (v.close to the beach)

my surfing friend has told me to get a 6ft 10in mini mal

Please could you advise,Also do you think i should just go out to surf or enroll in a surf school.

Hey Josh, if you're the quick learnin type i reckon you should read the surfing lessons here on surfing waves and then get out in the surf. Take a mate with you n have some fun. A surf scholl might be a good idea if you're uncertain of yourself because they are run by top surfers who can give you some good advice and instuction. its up to you what you do and but thats my advice.

Im from whinmoor (sort of north east leeds) very close to the ring road. I think you should try renting boards for a while when you're just beggining to learn. start by renting the bigger foam boards as they are more stable and easier to learn on. then when your standard has improved a bit maybe then think about buying a board. A minimal is a good bet for a learner though.

180.00 great british pounds

That board sounds like it is pretty good. To get your hands on a minimal in perfect condition at 180 is good.
It will be a good board to learn on, especially as you are so close to the surf at Fistral - you should be able to get into the water regularly.
