Pig dogging is quite a bad habit to get into but it is fun to pull into small closeout barrels like you said.
Basically I pop half way up with my back knee on the board, grab the rail, get covered up whilst still holding the rail and if I make it out then I stand all the way up (rarely happens).

Why? It was a necessary technique developed to get you into backside tube rides.

I got into a habit of not popping up all the way and literally pig- dogging on every back side wave just messin around in close-outs. What I'm sayin is for me, that wrecked my pop up because i was inexperienced at the time and pig-dogging became a habit. Even now my pop up and bottom turn on my back side is struggling.
I am assuming this guy isn't pig-dogging into proper barrels and is not experienced or he would'nt be asking for tips, and he said he sucks at it anyway.
That is just my experience with it becoming a bad habit.

damn im sorry should have explained more about this.. i am inexperienced but one reason i go on closeouts is to get comfortable getting covered, and i dont go mess around on them solely, i do get some proper barrels but i cant seem to get the hang of it, sometimes pulling in i even go straight out the back of the wave.. i've been squaring my shoulders toward the opening, rolling my front toes forward a bit to set my inside rail better, and leaning forward more to get out but i still dont have much control.. anyone got some more tips? thanks! :)

Try getting a solid grip on your outside rail and if it's steep use your butt to slow you down. Don't go too high in the barrel or else you will get pitched.
