Anyone can tell me if a wetsuit is needed to go surfing in the Santa Cruz area. What about LA and OC areas? I hope not, going to the beach doesnt seem the same with a wetsuit.

Uh, I remember when I was a child that water in So Cal and Central Cal was cold enough to make your nuts dissapear. But it wasn't enough to give hypo, cept maybe the winter time..a suit would be a good idea.

Santa Cruz is a great place to surf! I hope you have a great time out here. The water temperature ranges from 56 - 58 degrees F this time of year.

I am not someone who likes cold water and I wear a full 4/3 wetsuit (O'Neill Heat). With booties, it keeps me incredibly warm and comfortable.

There are some people (younger than myself) who wear a spring suit or a full 3/2.

There are plenty of places that rent wetsuits if you do not have one.

I hope you enjoy it here!

waters like in the 60's right now, in the oc region, if your comming from a warm place like flordia or the gulf, then yea you will probally need a wetsuit, but otherwise, you can freeze your ass of if you want. I wear a springer.
