Shortboard for So Cal

Postby Harrison » Thu Jul 08, 2004 4:00 am

Hey guys and gals,

I have been using a surf school's board for the past 2-3 weeks, but I want my own. I'm buying my first board soon, and I want to get a shortboard. A fellow the same height and 15 lb. heavier than I am offered to sell me his Channel Islands/Al Merrick Flyer II. Its 5'11" x 18.5" x 2.25". I heard that it is a great all around board, so figured this is perfect for me. The board is in great condition, only ridden 5 times. He's selling it for $325 and to me that sounds like a good deal. I am 5'10" and weigh 140 lb. I live in Orange County, so I surf Newport Beach and Huntington mostly. Maybe travel to Baja some day. Any advice or comments would be great. Thanks ahead of time.

Well, can you try his board? Also, consider going to a rental shop and renting some diff. boards to see what you like. Place i went had all shapes and sizes for rent. $5 and hour. You could try 3 or 4 in a day and get an idea. Just my 2 cents.

Is that the one next to that taco/fish stand? If so, one time I rented them there. Also got a lesson there. Other times it was the shop a little north on 101, next to Cold Stone.
