too late to start learning?

Postby Guest » Mon Jul 05, 2004 5:23 pm

Is 24 years old considered too old to start learning how to surf? It seems like most people start before they're even a teenager. Of course, I do realize that you could learn at any age, but is it too late for me to ever become really good? I've been reading tons of webpages about surfing and have started working out in hopes of trying out surfing in a few weeks or so. I love the beach and it'd give me a reason to drive the 80 miles or so to the coastline every weekend.

Never too late, that's what I say. I'm 22 and just started and I plan on getting pretty good at it. It just takes time and it's all about the challenge. good luck, hope you get into it, it's worth the effort...:-)

Hello!
I too am 24 and have been learning to surf for about 3 months. I love it!! its so much fun and I am getting better the more I go. Just go and have fun with it. So what if the 10year old in my surf lessons was way better than me......!

Ooops, sorry, that was me that posted the original message. How are the lessons working out for you? I was thinking about going that route initially and then just figuring the rest out on my own.

Hello ppl

I'm 17 and I would really like to learn to surf... it would be a good thrill

but I live all the crack in OREGON, nowhere near a coastline, besides this state sucks and isn't a hot spot for surfing, either way is there like a way I can learn... even here in a land-locked area?

Hey

I had a weeks surf lessons on fistral beach with the BSA. It was really good and teaches all you need to know to get out there on your own. I reckon its worth doing to get you started and its really good fun!

We now hire our own boards and just keep practising everything we were taught!

Just ignore the 10year old who zooms past you after the first hour!

I know a guy started at about 50, and he's now 60 and surfs like a god (got real style). Imagine those 10 years without waves, he would have had a very different 50's to 60's...

My Nana started painting at 60, she's now 80 and you can tell she's painted for 20 years, she's facking brilliant... Just get on with it man! :)
