Surfing Waves

Heloo! my name is emma and I want to learn toi surf but i really dont have a clue what to do, i mean i have never seen a sufboard before but the sport really interests me and i really want tp learn, what and how is the best way to start? can you please help me?

i go to coast when i can usually cornwall, fistral i have never gone just to surf though, i really only wanted to start recently. i used to live by walsall. lol:P xx

Next time you head down to the coast, either rent a foamie board and have a go yourself in the white water (copy what other people are doing!!) or have a lesson at one of the surf schools - you'll get shown all the safety etc, as well as how to surf.

thanks i think i will, do you know how much it is to rent a foamie? what about wtsuites do i need one or will i be ok in just my cozzie? lol:P i feel so dumb lol i dont know anything .. glad i have u guys to talk to! xx

I can only think since I am on the other side of the pond that you will need a wetsuit. The water is 52 F (11 C) and I am wearing a 4/3 wetsuit, booties and gloves. I wear a hood when the air temp. is cold.

Any how welcome to the world of surfing and keep us up to date. Great people here.

If you are going to take lessons call the surf shop and ask them what you will need. You don't want to go out there and freeze.

Welcome to the forums newbie I had a lesson with a surf school down in Perranporth its right on the beach and they were excellent had no probs with them..think I paid around £25 for the lesson!

Run a few internet searchs you should find plenty of schools!

Yes, you'll definitely need a wetsuit. What thickness depends on the time of year, the shop'll give you the right one.

In Newquay, renting a board and suit will set you back less than twenty quid. Get a big foamie first time out.

Lessons are a good idea mostly from the safety point of view.

Hiya Emma, Im nearly always down at Fistral, i had lessons from the shop next door to the Esplanade Hotel, on Pentire. Cost about £30.00 ish.

Regarding wetsuits, you should wear one, it does get cold sitting out there waiting for a set to roll in.

I think you should be looking at about £30.00 to rent a board and wetsuit !

Go out and enjoy yourself !

Pretty much any beach in the NEwquay area has a surf school on it that will rent boards/suits for about £20 a day (less if you rent in the town centre, but then you have to work out how to get it all from there to the beach!!)

Lessons are a little bit more, but include the board and suit hire (and probably boots and gloves if its a cold month!!)

Fistral is the obvious choice, but if you have a car you could go to Watergate Bay which is really learner-friendly and massive, so plenty of room!

And definitely wear a wettie - not only will it be cold without one, but I tried surfing in a bikini once...DON'T try it (unless you have one of those amazing bikinis that gorgeous surfer-girls in Oz have, that don't fall down) - or when you pop to your feet, you will be providing an X-rated show for the entire beach!!

lol i will definatly be wearing a wetsuite now lol:P i have long come back from camping in watergate bay, we were on a hill and out tent nearly blew away in the strong wind lol:P i will have a look for some schools near there, i will lety you all know how i get on lol:P

i have been looking on the internet and it tells you that u can practice pop ups in your front room but it doesnt tell you how to do them can anyone help? xx
