I feel like a kook for asking this but i just recently moved down to a much shorter board (6'2") and forgot how much i used my toes to push me up when i slide my feet under me. Now ive been resorting to using my knees to help push down on the board before sliding my feet under. IS THERE A BETTER WAY, MY KNEES ARE GETTING DESTROYED

a better way is to do a push up, doing the knee thing will only slow u down, try avoiding that habit..goodluck!

I think what he means is that his feet hang off the end of the board, and now his knees are now the pivot point for the push up/pop up. I find the same thing, my knees tend to rub the traction pad too....gets them pretty ripped up after a couple days straight on the board.

Oh, i thought he meant popping up on his knees
Well, i guess you have to stand on your board as quickly as possible..once u catch the wave, pop up real quick, probably in under a second..just try to do it as fast as u can, then u wont probably rub ur knees on the pad..i dont know if i make sense here..i never had that experience so i cant really tell you what to do, im sure someone else can help you out..im sorry

This is where being a tall xxxxx is a pain in the a**....well I am going back down to mexico in about 3 weeks, so I will experiment there to see what I am doing wrong. Its hard here in Canada...because we are in wetsuits(atleast 6mm suits) most of the year, so you dont feel it

haha nah i dont pop up onto my knees but like Batman says i find it now as my new pivot point as compared to my toes when i did the push up on a longer board. its not so much THIS fact, but the fact that when i go to stand to my feet from this brief pivot point, my knee ALWAYS skims the deck and it SUCKS. i guess ill just have to get use to it haha.

what kind of wetsuit are you wearing? (that's if you are wearing one)..if you are, you should get the one with knee pads, maybe that will help

I dont usually wear a wetsuit, but this is a fundamental kind of thing that needs to be fixed. I just dont get how i can pop up without skimming my knee on the deck!

i know where you are coming from...i use to get my knee stuck on the board whenver i wore a steamer...to avoid it, try popping up with your hands flat on the deck doing a push up rather then grabbing your rails to pop up. hope this helps.

Ill give it a shot, but i found it wasnt really my hand position, but the focal point i push with my knees. Like i said, i used to use my toes to help that initial push, now i find myself using my knees to compensate for the shorter board. Anyone figure out a way around this?

learn how to pop-up withought using your knees on the floor, experiment,
try to put alot of power in your arms, and maybe lift your knees up then put your feet on the board

ah, its just something you have to practice...I cant really see any quick fix for this.
