sinking surfboard - what's going wrong?

why does the board im using sink or dip in at the front if i try to stand on it, ive never surfed before, am i doin sumthin wrong?

That could be a lot of stuff you know.

Maybe you are not paddling enought and not waiting for the wave to carry you. Before you stand up you have to feel the wave lifting and carrying you. At this pint if you were to stop padling the wave would just take you with it like a bodyboarder. When you feel it lifted you and started carrying you then pop up imediatly.

You have to be careful not do dive the tip of the board underwater. For that you must be carefull with how you distribute your weight.

What size is your board an what size are you?

my boards a 6.4 and im about 5.8 and 9stone, any ideas? could be some of the reason above, used to bodyboard maybe im just doing what i naturally did before?

Its all about balance. If you stand too far back on your board then it will stall and if you stand too forward or put too much weight forward then it will pearl( nose go under water). Ideally you want to have your back foot over the fins and front foot somewhere in the middle of the board. If you feel the board stalling then put more weight forward and visa versa if the front of the board is going under the surface of the water.
