What would you reccomend?

For how long? - is it worth making a week of it as opposed to a weekend.

Learning abroad in warmer waters?

Depends on where you want to surf, Newquay has great surf schools.

Are you new to surfing ? If so a weeks course might be ok, but like most things you have pratice, pratice , pratice !

i used to surf when i was a nipper (16 ish), but its about ten years on now

I keep thinking of trying to get down to bournemouth to have a few lessons as i am spending a few weeks in newquay over the summer.

I am also looking into an october sort of time trip to morocco.

I went to a surf school down at Perranporth its right on the beach and there lessons were really good and they weren't that pricey either, definitely worth looking in to.

theres an awesome article on this subject in this months issue of transworld surf magazine.

Not that I know flesh all about lessons.... never had one... (hence very slow learning curve!)

But, if I was starting I'd book myself a weekend (avoid bournemouth for learning, its not consistent enough) to learn the basics, then practise those basics. THEN take some more lessons once I was happy popping up etc.

Doing a weeks course would, I imagine, be very hard work physically and not necessarily get you there any quicker.

No point in trying to rush learning - it takes flippin' ages!

What I did, which seemed to work out for me fine:
Started off messing around in the white water on a friends board. I then devoured a book on surfing (Surfing: A Beginners Manual)
and practiced pop ups. Then, I booked a 1 hour lesson at perranporth. The instructor had a look at my 'surfing' and pointed out the mistakes I was making.

From then on, I just worked at putting what i'd learnt into practice. Maybe I would have progressed further with more lessons, and I may well take some more lessons later this year to improve my surfing. But all in all, it's worked out pretty well for me.
