i knw each wave is different and all but like for a spot how can you tell where u want the wind to come from for better swells and stuff

and what does glassley mean

when wind is offshore (comes from the land to the sea) it creates barrels and boosts the wave height. When the wind is onshore it come from the other side flattening the wave.

that is a glassy wave, basically meaning it looks like glass.
You can usually find them when there is no wind.
here is a better shot of what you can expect:

for obvious reasons offshore is preferable. Aside from that i love going over a wave and seeing that rainbow spray :D

Offshore doesnt 'boost' the wave height so much as 'hold the wave up' which is a change of shape rather than height (hence those barrels). A howling offshore on a less than huge day can simply blow the waves flat

But as a rule of thumb - strong winds bad, light breeze good, onshore bad, offshore good, glassy perfect :D

wind is useless never how you want it to be when you want it
weeks of offshores and no surf!!!

it sucks when thers only a small amount of surf and offshore winds clean it up, but sometimes cas its quite dumpy where i am it doesnt let the wave breack properly and a nice little wave is ruind

Sal, the wind from my arse is sweet as an autumn pancake and as warm as a gnat's armpit on a hot day in Mexico.

Of course, if you're looking at the wind to see if waves will be coming your way, sustained winds in the middle of the ocean pointed in your direction are very good, indeed.
