i need advice

i moved here from england 6 months ago and im new to the whole surfing thing i have a short board and i can stand up on about 2 ft waves lol and im not that confident on bigger waves yet because im not used to the water and in away i am scared of being dunked or something so have u guys got any advice on like how to get better and get riding the big waves

thanks emm how do u catch the wave do u get it from behind or in front because iu find when u get in front u seem to get dunked alot easier

Practice, it really is that simle.
There isnt just one thing anyone can tell you that will suddenly make you amazing, you have to work at it.
Oh, and if you're afraid of big waves then dont go out in them, you prob should have got a longboard or minimal as your first board so you can surf smaller waves.

'taz999' - I really dont understand your second question at all.
You just gotta practice mate and gradually build up to bigger waves - cant go surfing without getting your hair wet! and if you're still unsure watch other people surf to see how they manage it.

Fear is a mind killer. Getting dunked is all part of surfing just get used to it and go for it.

Oh it might be worth mentioning that fear can be a good thing if it keeps you from drowning - Wait!!! ive totally contradicted myself :lol:

Refrase - dont fear the bigger waves but do fear the huge waves :lol:

i was exactly the same. i ride a shortboard and for a while i just couldnt go any bigger then about 3ft waves. i was a little scared especially since i dont live near the sea so i dont get to practise as often as others. but one week i stayed with my aunty and just surfed every day cos my family live around cornwall. so my advice is just build up your confidence bit by bit and youl get there eventualy

which part of australia are you in?

Some breaks are a lot easier in big waves than others... and some beaches are always protected so you can usually find waves that suit your ability on any given day.
