How do I stop from pearling? I tried my friends 8'0 longboard today on a waist high wave and I kept pearling over and over because the wave was steap. I wasnt that far up on the front of the board. Could I be catching the wave at the wrong time??

yes - move further back before the wave is breaking and the paddle like Shamu to get up to the same speed the wave is travelling - you'll feel it start to take you.

Once you feel this - KEEP PADDLING !! At least another three of four really powerful, deep strokes.

On a mal - you want to be catching the wave WAY before it is breaking if you are learning.

There are other techniques once you are a bit better at surfing too.
