Wetsuits

Postby Tyler » Tue Jun 08, 2004 6:23 pm

Ok, so now I'm sorted with the board...but what about wetsuits?!

a) I'm not sure about the size coz I've never asked when I've borrowed them! And I don't know my weight in pounds...ha ha! I'm 8.5 - 9 stone and 5 ft 7 and with the chart I was guessing size 8, but could be totally wrong so....

b) I've only ever surfed in a full wetsuit but quite like the idea of a shortie coz I don't feel the cold too badly and would prefer not to be completely covered - so would that be ok or re they a bad idea?

Hopefully when I've got this sussed too I can get on with it and stop harrassing you all with endless questions!

Cornwall mostly, but sometimes Wales...Scotland (and yeah, ok - I admit it's cold there, but I went in the sea on xmas day in a bikini and survived!) ...nowhere exotic!

Cornwall sea temps mean you could do with 2 wetsuits if your gonna surf all year round.

A 3/2 during the summer and autumn
and 5/4 for the winter

though ive heard some guys using 3/2 all year round. If you get one that fits well you might get away with it.

All depends on your resistance to the cold, if your were buying one tommorow id go for the 3/2

On the east coast its easy 5/4 all your round with greater number of accesories in the winter.

I have a 5/4/3 suit that I use and then a 3/2 for summer & autumn.

My wife uses a 4/3 all year round though and just wears a thermal rashie underneath in winter. That's a good solution actually.
