Smooth Take offs

Postby Mutznutz » Wed Sep 20, 2006 1:38 pm

Ok, having a prob with my pop ups and have got into bad habit over the years.

Can't quiet seem to swing my left leg from under my bod and out in front of me on the take off.

Now I 've compensated by jumping form the knees and then moving my front foot out to where it should be. This causes me to bog alot of the times and is not so smooth.

This was ok on longboards but now my interest has turned to shorter boards this technique won't work!!

Anyone any tips on this or stretches I could do maybe get that leg out smoothly from the lying down position to the crouched position?

might sound a dumb question; but how do u pop up? I tried for ages by putting my hands infront of my shoulder joint and pushing up from there, but found it near on impossible to get my front foot (left foot) far enough forward.

Now I put my hands down by my last rib and push from there.. et voila!

Yeah, I pop up from the last rib too but still have trouble getting my front foot up far enough.

Work on your abs. Practice a few sets of pop ups, like 3 sets of 5 pop ups, then Do full sit ups, lot of them, every day. You will be able to swing your front leg up in the air like jean claude van dam within a few weeks. It sounds like your mid section needs strengthening.

A lot of people work out thier arms and chest, and it doesn't help, Push ups are good, because they work the chest triceps shoulders and abs, but focus on your abs a little more.
