Please Help Me!

Postby The_Grynch » Sun Jan 04, 2004 9:52 pm

Hi everyone. I'm 15 years old and my Mum and Dad said that I can have surfing lessons in Febuary, that's when I go to Newquay (i'm English!). After I done the lessons I need advice about choosing a board.

Firstly, could you please tell me what kind of people longboards and short boards suit.

Secondly, what board would you advice to me? I am 5ft 5' (I don't care what the price is).

Cheers :D

A Longboard or a Shortboard?

It's a matter of personal taste. Once you have been surfing on both of these you can make a decision about what board you would like. That said why not have both! Longboards are the only board to have if the waves are small. Shortboard and longboard surfing are two different styles of surfing so it's a personal choice.

what board would you advice to me?

If you are a beginner you should always go for a bigger board. I would never advise anyone to start learning on a shortboard - your progress will be much better on a minimal or mal.

You'll be able to find a board that will suit you in Newquay - it has the best range of surf shops in England. Take your time when looking around and don't be afraid to ask the shop assistants about a board to suit you. Be honest about your size, weight and ability. Most of the people working in the shops are surfers themselves and should have some good advice.
