Surfing Waves

Can't believe it, first waves for ages and I've completely lost the abilty to do anything, can't paddle fast enough, can't pop up, can't do anything!!

When I pop up the board sinks beneath me so I'm knee high in water, I paddle like crazy and watch as the wave just rolls under me.

Have I mysteriously put on 3 stone overnight?

It could be the waves, they weren't that big and didn't seem to have much power behind them even tho they were going quite fast. I watched another guy surfing the same break and he too was paddling like mad but not getting anywhere either, is it me? are we both sh!te? or is it the sea conditions?

I hate days like that, feel very very demotivated

It could be the conditions...
It could be the board...

Right board for the right conditions makes a difference.

this wasnt at casswell bay last night by anychance? if so i was teh other guy that was paddling liek crazy and gettign no where

too right! for example me + high volumed shortish board + small saunton waves = good fun!!!

me + short thin board + small saunton waves = not a lot of fun i would imagine

I've got a 7'6 funboard, that's always served me well. I live in Eastbourne which is surf-starved at the best of times especially in summer, just wish I could have caught a few properly.

You surf eastbourne? As in South Coast UK eastbourne? Surrey (or is it sussex)?

Good grief, no wonder you cant catch much!

This time of year, the waves there will be so gutless you'd be struggling to catch them on a longboard. Time to travel a bit further afield.

yeah Eastbourne isn't exactly North Shore although it can get quite big and rideable in the winter providing you remember to avoid the break-waters.
