So. Cal Beginners Breaks

Postby wahine » Tue May 25, 2004 4:13 pm

Aloha!

I am heading home (So. Cal) tomorrow with my boyfriend, who's never surfed in his life. I want to take him surfing more than anything, but want his first experience to be a mellow, fun one... no gnarly reef breaks, huge swells, etc.

Can ANYONE please suggest a couple of nice beach or point breaks where I could take him in either Orange County or LA County? Places where we could rent him a board and full suit would be awesome.

I usually surf in San-O, but haven't been a regular in a while b/c I had to move away from home for a little bit. :(

Thanks!!!

Aloha,

So Cal has a lot of places you can venture out to and have a "mellow" surf session. If he's a grom and doesn't know too much about surfing, it might be a little intimidating for him to sit in the lineup with the others at San Onofre.

You might wanna try Bolsa Chica. Tne lineup's almost NEVER packed and there are plenty of waves that don't close out on you so quickly like at Hutington. THe waves are usually around 2-4 feet so they'll be fun for the both of you.

Either way, both are great spots for longboarders. I'd take Bolsa over San Onofre though, just cause it's not as packed.
