Going to Oahu and need to know who I should hire to teach me to surf. I'm brand new and have found websites for Ty Gurney and Sunset Suzy but want some recommendations from people that have been there.

i used
http://www.girlswhosurf.com/ for lessons -- no i'm not a girl --- they were extremely professional, great boards, great extras, knew great spots out of the way -- highly recommended for beginners and intermediates.
tell Cherry I say hi!
surfing was cool

Hey Scrambled Legs,
I think I just answered a post of yours on another thread! I won't repeat everything I said there, but I know both schools you mentioned on Oahu and you'd probably be fine with both, but having spent lots of time there with my kids (we're all taking lessons together) I think you'd like that the Ty Gurney School has really small class sizes and I'd suggest taking a private or semi-private if you can swing it financially. I stood up my second wave when I took a lesson from Ty Gurney's school (I surfed with Ty that day) and he basically gets everyone up right away and pays very close attention to safety, comfort, and energy. Surfing is supposed to be fun and he makes it fun and my boys are nuts about him. I know Suzy from Sunset Suzy's too and she's really nice but I think sometimes there are just way too many people in the water at one time, with one instructor. Anyway, probably more than you wanted to know. But have fun! I can't wait to get back in the water.
