Yet another wetsuit question

Postby ju3lz » Thu May 18, 2006 4:29 am

Ok, I'm going to start surfing this summer and I want to know if I should buy a wetsuit. I live in Southern California and only a few minutes away from Manhattan/Santa Monica/Redondo Beach. The thing is I'm not sure what the pacific is (warm or cold water  ) especially since the weather has been kind of crazy as of late, anyone else know?

Hey I think you will definately need a wetsuit for around that area. I know a few guys who live in San Diago and wear wetsuits for around 6-7 months of the year.

By the way I'm a university student doing some research on wetsuits at the moment I would really appreciate it if some of your guys could fill out this survey on wetsuits, its only 10 questions... Everyone who does goes in the draw to win the Campaign 2 surfing DVD.

Here is the link to the survey:

Cheers.

Just out of randomnessness...I saw a bunch of Rip Curl wetsuits in this sports shop today, and they were like £80. 3mm, full suit!

They're realy as well, You think I should buy it?

hey ju3lz, u need a wetsuit if you surf around l.a. area, weather may be warm but the water is still a little bit cold, u can wear a spring suit during summer but def a fullsuit during winter/fall/spring..the water is warmer down south (i.e. OC, SD)

Water temp is usually mid 60s to high 50s, everyone I have seen is wearing a full suit right now, especially if you are planning session of any length. The water in southern california doesn't really get too much warmer than 64 or 65 degrees in the summer, except down further south in San Diego. I have a 3/2 wetsuit and that has been working fine for me, in North Orange Co. (Huntington and Seal Beach).

Dec ripcurl bang out different wettys to cover different markets, see what features it has like fluid seem weld, flex panels, antiflush etc obviously if it has a few of these features then grab yourself a bargain and if they are a mega bargain stick a couple on ebay to make a few squids!
Its all good :)
