i learnt to surf on foamies and i picked up standing on the board really easily, i have just got a 6'3 thruster and i am finding it impossible to do just about anything on it. i can't balance and everytime i go to stand up, the board becomes unbalanced and when i start to stand i slip and fall. it is really annoying as there were really good waves today and i couldn't do anything. please, please give me any tips coz i so badly want to catch some waves. do i have to just stick it out, is it normal or am i the only one???? please help

probably not enough experience and your boards to small ,itll just take you alot longer to learn but a 6.3 is a very small board to learn on , then again it depends on your weight and height to .
Just check around on forum loads of info!!!

too small for you. Rent a funboard and start to progress. Foamies are a lot diferent to shortboards. Or....you could just stcik it out (I did on a 6'4")

Also there is a krizillion other posts on this.

Friend was a shortboarder 10-12 years ago, surfed longboards since then, decent surfer. usualy uses one of his 9'2" - 9'6" boards.

Bought a 6'6" fish a month or two ago, he can yet barely manage to ride a wav at all on it.

It has plenty enough mass/boyancy(foam) but its all just under your feet not out away from your body, so its like standing balanced on a pinhead rather than a stable platform.

Sounds to me like you went from easy easy street (foamies) to advanced without trying anything in between...

I noticed a BIG difference between a borrowed 9'3" and the 8' funboard I bought.
