Well for a start ythere are now wave bouys in the lakes so thats your first problem.
However to get waves on said water spans your going to need a big or tight system passing accross them to wip up a windswell. This is surfable usually if its big enough and if the wind drops quickly your have cleanish but gutless waves for an hour or two max.
Very short lived,
Not very powerful
Very much fro the desperate!
Watch the weather reports for systems tracking accross the lakes.
