I have a mini gun, about 7 foot. I am curious about how I should pop up and the foot placement on the board since I have never surfed a gun before.
Can anyone please help me?

Before I chime in, I will need to know:

1) What size type is your "Go-To" board ?

2) How and Where are you popping up on that board ?

3) How and What is your foot placement on that board ?

4) Does that gun have a traction pad on it. ( can you upload a photo )

Ultrakook did you know a gun board is designed to be a more capable board in bigger more powerful surf.
Not a beginners board, it is a big jump and difference from the wave storm you were considering!!

If you set out to buy a board why not post a picture of what you are considering first so we can advise you.

Questions beyond Waikikichans.

How much surfing have you done!
What height weight and age are you.

What locality are you surfing at

My keyboard is have question mark and other oddities so post a little odd!

In short, if you’re surfing a gun in the conditions it was designed for, your question isn’t a question.

I was out with my daughter this morning and she asked after getting a few waves where she should have her feet when popping up. I told her she was doing fine and if she was properly positioned on the board and could catch a wave then her feet should be where they end up after popping up. I told her don’t worry too much at this point and not to ever look down to check her feet.

I’ve been surfing for a while I just liked the color of the longboard.

I’m 5’6, about 100 pounds, and 13. I’m surfing in Southern California near Newport. I just want the foot placement on the gun so I don’t look like a kook.

My go to board is a 5’8 short board. I’m popping up where my feet is exactly in the middle of the board. I’m doing a fast pop up where I slide both my feet into position at the same time. My gun does not have a traction pad on it. Should I add one?

It doesn't matter if you look good on the board. If your feet are in the "wrong" place but you're making the board move and flow on the wave, then so be it.

What will determine if you're a "kook", is what size waves you're riding that "Gun" on. What size waves are you planning to ride it on ?

It is not a must, but it will help you to know where your back foot is.

Where you pop up won't matter as much as where your feet are when you turn. Sure the "Gun" is a foot and four inches longer than your shortboard, but flipped both boards over and line up the tails. How far are the fins from the tail, say if they're both thruster set ups ? I would think both are about the same distance.

Here Kai Lenny is riding a 10 foot "Gun".

I'll be riding my gun on a 10 foot day. It rarely happens but do you think its a good size?
