Some backside carving

I recently got some more footage of my backside. The wave really helped on this one and except for the rail digging on the second carve I think I did kind of well too. Surely there are things I could further improve though!

This other video are 4 waves, but I misread the first, mistakenly thought there would be a tiny barrel on the second, closed out on the third and the fourth was the one that I did better I guess

Hopefully I improved some from the last time I posted, but I'm ready for some more feedback so I can further work on it!

On your backside cutbacks, your knuckles are down and palm is facing up .......... BUT it is in the wrong orientation. Your hand is back like relay running waiting for the baton to be passed to you. It needs to flipped over the other way, like a waiter carrying a serving tray.

That will aid in having your shoulder rotate and pointed back to the wave, unlike currently rotated forward. And when you swing back, it will be a more "over the top" throw down, versus swinging down from underneath.

Oh damn, I'm still doing that! I wonder how I got used to it since it looks more complicated than just turning the arm the right way.

I'll keep trying simulating the correct movement on land to see if I make it more unconscious and I'm really considering getting a carving board. Even though they are not that cheap here might be worth the sacrifice if it's going to help me fix that once and for all.

Thanks again Waikikikichan, on point as always!

Hey Ian, these footages look great. I'm wayyyy behind the learning curve than you so can't say anything; but always love to watch goofyfoots surfing backside :D

Speaking of that, recently I collected some footage of goofy+backside that's been really helpful for my own imitation:
- https://www.redbull.com/us-en/films/uncharted-waters Landing page shows Wayne Lynch doing some bottom turns and off the lip
- https://youtu.be/drq4G5ztSGk?t=369 Neal Purchase Jr sequence; he did a more-than-12-o-clock off the lip
- and... anything from the Tudors

Thanks man! Videos look really nice for comparing, one thing I noticed is that not always they really exaggerate on the arm rotation as in bringing the palm all the way up when pulling the leading arm back, but they definitely never twist on the wrong direction like I'm doing. Later today I'll spend some time simulating the movement here on land, there's a swell hitting tomorrow so I might be able to try to fix this!

Small wave from friday! Didn't get a carveboard to practice on land yet, but I've been trying to remind myself on the water to turn my palm up in the right direction on the backside bottom turn as Waikikikichan pointed out. This time I seem to have remembered :D

Hopefully it will be more unconscious soon!
