Hi guys, so i've been trying to surf for a while now but whenever I try to get up on the board I end up with the back leg kneeled and the front leg standing any tips on how to fix that?

Welcome Leo there will,be lots of help coming , first question and it is important, what boards are you trying to ride?
That and your personal fitness level and weight and height too.
What you are doing is the beginner climb up, we all did it so it is something we learn to,do,differently

When you say you have been surfing "a while", how long is that exactly and how many sessions are we talking about? Are you still popping up in whitewater or are you trying to catch unbroken waves?

Once in a while I ride my board with my front leg up and back leg kneeled. It's the stance I used when I used to paipo board (bodyboard) long ago. I guess I do this because I am getting hit when I try to stand and fall into this position and then just stay there because it's a stable position and I can ride the board from that position. However I might stand up if the wave slows down and offers me an easy chance to stand the rest of the way up. You just need to practice standing up more and you will learn how to do it better.

it might feel a bit silly but practising popping up on land really does help, at least it did for me, I was getting my knees in the way for a while. Draw a board template and cut it out or just mark some landing points on the grass and practise 'springing' up. For me the one motion technique was the best, have a look on the youtube, lots of videos about it.
