Hey
I am surfing for little more then a year
I started with 8 feet softboard
And replaced it to 7 feet before one month
And i feel pretty good on the surf board
I can take waves with no problem
My corrunt issue is to get throw the waves
On a day with waves 1 meter and above

My high is 1.84 85 kilo my age 25
i am thinking to move to another board
I have two option
1.to take 6.6 softboard now
(I can sell the 7 feet and buy the 6.6)
I thing that if the surfboard will be smaller it will be easier to me on big waves and prepare me to the shortboard
And in more 10 month to replace to short

2.continue with the 7 for 10 month and then to replace to shortboard

Do you see any benefit for me to take the 6.6 ? I can be too small to my high?
I added the pic of my surfboard and the 6,6
I

Soft surfboard, especially short softboards will NOT help you improve to cutback and spray ( I think what you meant by "throw the wave" ). What is holding you back currently, is the full boxy rails and the rubber flexy screw on fins on your 7'0" OP board. Try finding a used hard board in size around 6'8" 6'10" 7'0" shaped like a Hybrid, Big Fish, or Fun board that has "real" FCS or Futures fins before you transition to a 6'6" hard board.

I think he means he is struggling to paddle out the back, ie. through the waves.

You should easily be able to get out in 1m waves on any softboard. The fact that you can't probably means that you're not fit enough, and/or haven't got enough experience to see which route to take. It is almost always a bad idea to buy a smaller surfboard because you can't get out back on your current one.

How are you getting past the bigger waves? Are you turtle rolling?

That works well enough for me, But on a soft board (I have a 7' soft), if no ones around I just let the board go and dive under bigger crashing waves. It's poor form but at least you get through much easier.
