board wax?

Postby nz girl » Thu Apr 01, 2004 8:21 pm

hi guys,
just a question, is all wax pretty much the same or is there a brand that you all swear by? and secondly, i'm a pretty (over) enthusiastic board waxer, how often should i actually be waxing my board? everytime i go out? or just every so often? do i have to remove it fairly often as well?
so many questions! sorry guys!

There are different types of wax and the one you are using depends on the water temperature you're in. Don't know about everyone else but once you've got a good few bumps on your board you can get away with just waxing the most used area of your board each time you go out. The landing area and rails are always good to top up on.
Hope this helps

In the UK you have to use cold water wax - even in the height of summer, so most people go with that.

I don't swear by any particular brand. I just 'rough up' the wax on my board with a wax comb and wack a bit more on the rails and feet areas then I'm in the water.

I used to get a block of hard, cold water wax and put a layer of this on, then put a layer of Mr Zogg's Quick Humps on top. Now I just throw whatever wax is to hand on and get going.

Yes....I definitly swear by Sticky Bumps. How grippy do you want your board? i heavily wax my board almost everyday. I believe you have more pull on the board with more grip...you might get a rash in between your legs but i think its worth it

I only remove my wax when it starts to get discolored and when it melts uneven and so on.
