My friend surfs with contact lenses and gets on OK. He uses disposables obviously. The first time he went out, he didn't wear anything and hence couldn't see the waves coming and had a bit of a miserable time.

As regards boards. I would go for a Mini-mal (I know I say this a lot) but these are good all round boards, you can use them in smaller swell and bigger waves.

Given your weight I would go for something around 7'10 X 2 3/4 X 20+.

It's actually the thickness and width that are more important. The wider and thicker the board, the more buoyant and easier to paddle/ stand on.

Hope this helps

i wear contacts in the water, but im lazy and stupid and use my monthlies.
Ive only had a few fall out and one a session so you can still see with one eye. Im only -2.5 in both eyes so its not that bad. The more you wipe out the more you lose basically
I lost about £45 of lenses one week (the price of a die hard surfer!!)

About your board sinista is right plenty of volume if you are 17 stone
