Surfing Waves

Hi guys,

I'm new in this forum! I've been surfing for almost 3 years in the North of Spain.
Can you please give me your opinion on my surfing video, so I can improve my surfing?
Basically I'd like to know:

- What should I correct and improve?
- What should I try next to evolve and go forward learning?

I was out at Serangan today with about 100 of my best friends.......would love an uncrowded break like that. I'll leave the critiques for the experts; I can't see anything other than I enjoyed the hatchet wave bodyshot at -.50....

I have a hard time judging what's really going on from gopro videos. Looks like you are doing ok. Is there some particular aspect of your surfing that you would like to work on? Surfing requires timing and skill. So if you can physically perform a maneuver is one thing but knowing exactly when to do it is another thing. Partly it looks like your timing of the maneuvers is sometimes slightly off but it is difficult to tell from the gopro video. Overall my usual recommendation is to keep practicing. That is how you learn. One of the things I do is to work on a particular maneuver so at first it was my bottom turn then top turns then cutbacks so maybe I might do all on a wave but if I am working on something I look for sections of the wave that will allow that particular maneuver and try to do it as much as possible in my surf sessions. There are some surf instructors here who can probably evaluate your gopro video better hopefully they will respond. Probably a more useful approach to learning to surf from others would be to pick out some aspect of your surfing that you want to improve then post a question on how do I do this skill better? Then there will more likely be lots of responses here.

it is hard to tell - all I can say is nice pop up, good balanced stance and hand positions, you seem to be staying in the pocket (where the wave is breaking) most of the time which is great. Looks pretty good - your next stage is probably doing that last 20% refining rather than anything major

You're good at catching waves, popping up and getting down the line quickly. Nice job!

The waves seem really fast and eventually race ahead forcing you to dive over the curl or ride the white water. If this is true, try to ride in the top 1/3 of the wave face and work on floaters over the sections to increase your speed.
