What size board is right for you? Journeyman surfer answers

What's up? This is Matt at Malibu Longboards. I have been teaching surfing for the last 15 years and I get this question a lot.
The easy answer is go with the bigger one first. It will be easier to paddle, catch waves and stand up. Otherwise you could be spinning your wheels until you get some real paddle power.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt
