I know that you can't surf in a pool, but would it help to lie on my surfboard in my pool? Just to get the feel for it??
Thanks!!

There is so much that goes into surfing and learning to lay on a board is one of the things you need to learn. Depending on the size of your pool it might help to paddle around and learn to navigate and turn the board while laying or sitting on the board. There is you the board and the waves all interacting. Take out one part of that trio and you won't learn as much. For those who are completely unfamiliar with waves learning about waves is a big hump to crawl over.

Go for it! Like oldmansurfer said, it can help get you familiar with the feel of lying/sitting on your board while it's in the water, maybe even get a bit of paddling in. It will feel way different out in the ocean though, as you won't have to deal with any water moving in the pool. Another good thing to do away from the beach is to practice your popups on solid ground, lay out a towel or something to give you a general outline of a surfboard and aim to land in the middle(where the stringer would be) in your surf stance.

Practice laying on you board, sitting on it, moving between laying and sitting (both way) and spinning the board (from facing into the wave as you look to facing the beach). Turn both ways (right and left) If it's deep enough, practice getting on your board from the water.
All things you need and all useful things you can practice in the pool.
Unless you have a huge pool I wouldn't practice popping up in the pool. Because you aren't moving you will fall off within a second or two and you and the board will fly all over the place.

I would add duck diving if the pool is deep enough and turtle rolling including the bit where you have to get back in the board....practice without using the bottom.....helped a lot in my growth.....I sit on the board and watch tv sometimes....initially it helped with familiarity bit now it's just relaxing:...usually as a cool down after fiddling with the board.
