General critique

Good morning!

I haven't been on here for awhile but I just took my GoPro out with me over the weekend to get some footage of where my surfing level is at and I would love any and all critique, tips, advice, etc. I made the switch from a LB to a 7'6 funboard a few months ago and this is the first time I'm seeing myself on film with this board (always looks a little different than you feel  ).

Thanks for the help!

Rachel

I can't see it either, but a thought while you get your video working.
Nose mounted GoPro footage is totally useless for critique of your surfing all it shows id almost an epileptic set of gyrations , it does not show what you are doing in relation to the wave, and that is what would give us a true view of your progress. Sorry

Thanks that's actually very helpful. It totally does just look like excessive gyrations, just an awkward angle in general  . I'll try to take the camera out again this weekend with a friend to get the wave in the shot.

I've been surfing now regularly for a little over a year and I've mostly just been going off of feel and I'm worried I may be developing some bad habits which is why I was seeking you fine peoples expert advice/opinions/guidance.

Cheers!

well,
the classic go-pro front view/nose mounted it is fine to have a look at your stance and why you are wiping out.
I spent hours watching my rides and trying to compare my movements, or weight distribution, to some good surfer.

If you watch carefully you can see your error. It's a good tool to understand what you are doing at beginner level.

Then, yes, you actually need to see the waves. That's where I'm at now. I really need to see the lot to have a real sense of my actions. But that's becouse, thanks god, after almost 4 years I'm starting to really play with the waves. I'm slowly entering another stage. The problem is: who the hell is going to film me :unuts: ? My mates will be out with me, my parter will be sunbathing or shopping.. i don't see it happening anytime soon..

Video problem:
from the little bit visible I think
that you filmed the pc monitor with your phone, using your phone vertical!!
[ I'm so sick of people filming stuff without rotating the phone properly. Pc , tv, laptop, tablets, megascreen, cinemas, youtube windows..... they are ALL wide -left to right-, and short up/down. What people do? They shoot tall and narrow! :bang:
(nothing personal here!)]
So probably there's a problem between the video window (16/9) and video itself (9/16)..
or something like that..

Shocked to find you're a girl for some reason lol..massively jealous of your ability and sunshine!! I can't critique as I'm a beginner noob so if anyone needs me I'm off to sulk in a glass of honey jack Daniels :D
