Surfing before Sunrise

Postby comadan » Thu Feb 17, 2005 7:13 pm

Hi, I just started surfing and wanted to avoid the weekend crowds, but unfortunately work from 9-6 during the week.

How light should it probably be before heading into the water? Anyone head out before sunrise?

Thanks!

I've seen people out there right at Dawn. I work at 9 also. I just go out around 6:45am and am out of the water at 8am.

I used to get in the water at 6 in the morning but since the sun rises later I now go about 6:30, but thats still when its dawn. I heard that people go at 5:30 but I think thats too early. I wake up about 5 or 6 and leave about 8 or 9. It only helps to go early when theres a crowd like at waikiki where I go. If its empty all the time I think you should take advantage of that. Its feels much better to surf when the sun is out and bright then when its dark. The waves are colder, darker and look dirtier. When its bright it feels happier. I dont go out to early because I believe that sharks lurk when its dark. I go right when its a bit light a bit dark and should be semi lighted by the time I get out there.

Arrive when its dark and suit up. Head in when you feel comfortable withthe light intensity.

Go with a friend if your worries.
