When you get out in the water, after establishing a good attitude, making good observations and decisions, it will naturally follow that you will show respect....
But this needs to be applied and includes, dont drop in, avoid wherever possible being caughtinside and becoming an obstacle for incoming surfers, and letting other people catch a few waves....
We all seek to extend our ability and challenge and sometimes we commit to situations which we fail to complete. Don't be disrespectful to yourself if you fail to pull something off....gets back to attitude....a good attitude and good observations lead to good decisions. All of this unperins respect and maintaining respect for onse self is a good foundation for other people to respect you....
So whether its for fun, or for that next competition, these basic things above anything else, cost nothing other than time to develop awareness and mental discipline...but when applied lay a foundation for all other skills to be developed and come to the fore....
These are not klessons learned once, they are lessons to be learned and applied on every occassion and its a component of practice....
If you are learning to surf, and follow these advices you will quickly be able to see the difference between surfers with great attitudes and surfers who in spite of any flashy floater, just havent developed as a person and are problematic people wherever they go in life be it in or out of the water......
Once we identify the people with great attitudes, they then become the role models and in that the foundation for further develoment is set because it is then just a matter of natural progression through sustained commitment in all aspects of becoming a better surfer.
This applies equally to people still riding vthe white water, or for people who have made it to the line up....
