I have been surfing for a little more then a year now and would say im a amateur. I am having a problem with duckdiving and getting the back of my board to go down. I always get drawed back a little bit, and is a pain getting to the lineup on a big day. Any advice? The board I am riding is a bic 6' 7" , 20.75 width, 2.40 thickness, and 10.5 lbs weight. I am 5' 8" and weigh 170 pounds and lift alot so this should not be a problem sinking the board. So what do you guys recommend with getting the board to sink more? Any advice is appreciated!

Not sure if my way is the correct form but this works for me. My board is a lot smaller but I do weigh less. I start on my my knees and hands, right before I duck, I do a slight "jump" to push it lower in the water. It's kind of hard to explain in words but I am sure someone can explain their techniques better.

Hey surfing22, there are loads of explanations on this site and there are a few vids on youtube. Duck diving will take some time getting it right. I don't think at your weight and height you should have a problem submerging the board (in my opinion - i ride a 6.8 x 20.5 x 2 5/8 and am only 5 pounds or so heavier than you and i am doing "ok" on the duck diving part - i still get it wrong mind you, but getting better each time i am in the water). You need to paddle with some speed towards the wave, remember timing is crucial....if you are to early you will pop up with the wave above you still or if too late you'll get smashed and dragged backwards.Once you have submerged the front half of your board, use your knee or better yet, your foot (on the tail pad) to push the board down so that it is parallel to the seabed. then pull your body towards the board and let the board's natural buoyancy bring you back to the surface.

just keep at it..eventually it will come together.
