Hello

Im a 18 and 6'5 220 and i want to learn how to surf. I am a pretty good bodyboarder so i under stand some of the basics. I am just unsure were to start on the size of board i need. I see i will need a real thick board cause of my weight. I just need some general advice im thinking i need a atleast a 10 footer and 3 inch minimum thickness. I live in huntington beach CA so im just aiming for general smooth waves to chill and have a good time on nothing crazy. What do you think i need?

Thanks in advance
Joe

Hi HB good to see someone who understands their needs in surfing, you are looking at the correct range of boards for your size, particularly if you want to have the cruisey style of surfing. I wish you luck and lots of stoke!!!!!!
Congratulations for standing up for yourself

Hi HBsurf714, welcome to Surfing Waves!

I agree with Jaffa, you are pretty spot on with the board you're aiming for. Keep us up to date on how you go.

HB..you will be good on the 10 footer, and you live in surf city!! HB can be quite fun on the south swell, nice peaky lefts and some rights. You may want to try some point breaks if you want some cruise time. To the south in San Clemente/San Onofre (just north of the BOOBIES looking nuclear power plant) is Old Man's and San O state beach....more of the cruiser style wave and less agro than HB. Perfect for the 10 footer!!
Keep the stoke!!
