How much can I do in one day?

Well, first of all,I apologize for any misspelling I may have, I'm from Argentina, a Spanish speaking country...

I recently started surfing, it was something i didn't dare to do before i always thought i did not have the skill to surf...

Since i'm leaving in Buenos Aires ( a city with no Sea) I can only surf on weekends( in Mar del Plata) , mostly 1 weekend at a month, since i don't have a board yet, i rent both board and wetsuit, which allows me(for economic reasons) to surf for no longer than 2 or 3 hours.

In about a week im going to Ecuador, Montañita, I'll be staying there for about 20 days, and i was wondering this, cause im afraid on getting to excited on first day, be 5 hours in the ocean and then be to tired to surf next day or maybe hurt me or something and be out of the water more, which will be terrible, since i dont have more time to be there than this 20 days.

anyways thanks in advance!

Yo and welcome, oh and your spelling is much better than a lot of the youths here in the uk. If the surf is good and your having a good time you will not want to get out no matter what anyone else says. You'll know when your there in the water when is a good time to stop.

The only thing that you should worry about is a wetsuit or shorts rubbing, as if you graze yourself on the first day it will be painful for the rest of the trip.

Stay in for as long as you like though, enjoy yourself :)

How many days are you planning to surf? Everyday? Every other day? I-would say pace yourself, like you said you don't want to get too tired from day 1 and burn yourself out. If you're planning to surf everyday, then maybe 2-3 hrs a day. If every other day, then maybe 3-4 hrs with break in between. Only you know what you're capable of, so I would take it easy.
Have fun on your trip! Sounds exciting.

Hey guys! thanks a lot for the answers

I think I have a very high resistance... I will start trying 4 hs splitted in 2 sessions and see how I wake up next day, if I'm not to tired I will repeat this through days, but just wanted to have a notion of what is logical? haha

Ricky: what does "graze" mean? I didn't get that, i don't know the word :P

all i can say is that in the summer here in the UK i went surfing for a long weekend, and on the second to last day i really went for it. i surfed around 12 hours. with maybe 2 30min breaks in between. A good and a bad idea. bad idea, because it really really hurt the nest day and i didnt sleep as i was soooooooooo stiff. but good because when i went back the next weekend, i did three 8 hours sessions with one 45 min break in between and i was fine. so maybe try one of these if you are thinking of having a break in between to increase our stamina.
Regards,

Tj

2 hour sessions are a good length, they are what I go for when I surf although if it is really nice I (we) stay out for longer :). Limiting factor at the moment is the cold and light :/ (UK)

A graze is a cut that doesn't bleed- like if your wetsuit rubs at the neck. Hurts a lot!
