This is a very easy question to answer, yes wave push you to the bottom, sometimes on reefs sometimes on sand.
The survival technique is learn to swim and learn to swim well, upwards.
In many cases waves are not the problem but are a survival friend and can wash you to the shore and safety.
Beginners are slightly protected by being beginners, that is, really dangerous situations appear scary and keep you out from them.
As a beginner you are very unlikely to go out in seriously dangerous waves
What is more dangerous to a beginner is the calm spots in the surf lineup, they are usually rips. (Currents that can drag you out to sea)
Here is the easy solution, team up with somebody who is respectful of beginners and learn from them, go to a good surf school,
go up to lifeguards at the beach you wish to surf at, ask them about conditions. Talk to other surfers at the beach.
Start slowly at surfing it is a life changing thing to do, and should be fun as much as possible :D

Gehen Sie einfach für es! Sie sind genug alt, Ihren eigenen Verstand zu kennen. Das Lernen im warmen Wasser würde eine gute Idee sein.
