Question from a beginner

Hey!
I'm new to this surfing world ;)
So...there is this camp where I could finally learn how to surf. I can go there for either 11 days or 22 days. So I'd like to ask you: how much can you learn in 11 days? I'd like to know enough to go somewhere alone next year. Is it possible to learn that much if you have never been surfing before?

No.

If you've never surfed before, then 11 days will simply exhaust you. Without a doubt they should be able to get you up and standing, and possibly even 'surfing', but what it wont do is give you experience and experience is everything in surfing.
You need to be able to read the waves, both so you know what waves to catch and where the dangers are. You need to have tried all kinds of different waves, different conditions, different days bla bla bla.

If you've never surfed before at all, then take it a lot more slowly - start with a one-day course somewhere, then take those new found skills and practise practise practise. Then take another day's course as an 'improver'. Then practise practise practise.
THEN maybe think about taking a longer, more expensive, course.

No short cuts in surfing, Im afraid.
But make the effort - it's worth it.

Thats true. The best teacher is time. The more you surf, the better and more fit, you will get.

"You need to be able to read the waves", completely underrated surf variable, yet, to have the most fun; it is a must!
