hi everyone. i am a beginner surfer from fort pierce fl. we have decent waves, ranging from knee high, to double over head.

i am 5'6" 185 lbs, but pretty fit for as fat as i am, lol.

i have used my brothers board which is a short board, probably a 6'0". and i haver used a friends 7'1" funboard. for some reason i can paddle into a wave easier with the short board. dont ask me why, i too am puzzled. i can paddle into the wave, but when i go to stand up i eat water.

i was going to buy a 7'4" fun board thats like 22" wide and 2.5-3" thick. but i think i will get bored quicky, and i dont want to buy the wrong thing.

are there any short boards for me? i was looking at fish, with thick rails, and a wide deck, but im not sure what to buy.

$ is a issue, so i would like to buy used. if i can use a shortboard my options are a lot better.

can anyone help me? and if you say lose weight, i understand, but i think ill be about this size forever. btw, i am 30 years of age if that matters at all.....Loola

Paddling into a wave and eating water doesnt count as catching it....

You'll struggle to progress on a shortboard so you'll get bored on that far quicker than you will on a funboard. Fishes are also unsuitable for beginners.

Go with the funboard, you'll have far more fun. Hence the name ;)

i have wridden waves in jacksonville before...yes stood up and rode....but it was on a power glide long board. a fish would not be good for me?

what size funboard should i get with my height and weight? rail size. thickness, and length?
