Hi EveryOne,

I was reading the guide on here about " Surfboards for beginners" & the one selection where it asks how often u surf. Im going to be surfing weekends & federal holidays as well. ( i will be mainly surfing in galveston)
Should I go with a pop-out, Mini-mal ( funboard) , Malibu ( what type of board is that? Its a longboard? right?)
Or since Galveston doesn't have big waves ( correct me if im wrong please) should i than go with a large fish board??

& like that Gulf surfer was saying :

longboards are still the best to learn on, when your beginning you dont need something to rip on, you just need a board that floats good, stable, and tough. Longboard fits all of that. As you progress you can get a shorter board, like posted above, a fish is a good board for mushy waves because they can drive through the soft spots.

thanks soo much,

Several questions and confused bits in there!

A pop-out is a type of construction, not a type of board. Mass produced plastic rubbish, but very tough and good for learners.

A mal, or malibu, is a longboard.

A funboard isnt a mini-mal - its halfway between a mini-mal and a shortboard. Very good for progressing, probably not so good for a complete newbie.

A fish is good for small waves, but isnt good for beginners.

A mini-mal or a longboard are also good for small waves.

Depending on your size, and from your name Im guessing your female and not 200lb, it would probably be best to start on a mini-mal.
