Yep we generally get the biggest swells during the winter. These days wetsuit technology is so good that it's still very crowded on the coldest days in winter. :-(

Sydney NB gets pumping during the winter!!!!
It's when everyone actually comes out to play though

Hi

I surf in South Tassie and it's pretty chilly down here, about 14c right now and set to get colder but it doesn't seem to stop the surfers getting out there. I've been wearing a 3/2 suit all through the summer and have just added bootees, I'm out of the water for a few weeks but when I get back in I'll either add another layer or thicker suit plus some gloves and maybe a hood to protect my ears.

Where are you surfing?

Sam

Northern Beaches of Sydney are very busy in the mornings. Its not getting daylight until about 6:15 in Manly, so it means a shorter surf than in the summer mornings, but still enough light to get a good 45 mins in before heading into the city for work. Water is still around 22 / 23 degrees, but the air is cool. I'm just about to move from the 2:1 shortie to a 3:2 full length suit - I get out every morning in the summer, and about 3 or 4 mornings a week now winter has rolled in :)
