Surfing Waves

I'm completely new to surfing and have almost no idea what I'm doing. I am shopping for a surf board but im not sure what brands are good. I also dont know much about the other gear or accessories i need. Can i get some help, suggestions and advice? also I'm 5'11 and about 130lbs.

you generally want a board that's not too refined. Maybe one that's about 6'0" x 18 3/4" x 2 1/4" (these are just an indication, don't go seeking a board with these exact measurements!).
Also if you've never surfed before i recommend a mini mal - they're mint to learn on!

A more realistic board size would be 7'6 or more x 21" x 2 3/4".
And get a mini-mal, a pop-out like BIC or NSP for your first board.

Depends mostly on where you surf.
