Surfing Waves

Hi lads iv got a problem and want help off someone who has an answer to this!!i bought a nsp 7"10 funboard and any time i go to catch a wave i either fall a bit short of the wave or this is the main thing i catch the wave and nose dive straight down and get thrown out over the board! i tried lieing back on the board but it still dont work !! please help because i love the sport!!
