Hi . I want to get into surfing but my swimming skills arent to hot . Do i have to be a great swimmer before i go deep ?

It would help... since the surfing paddle is soo much like the freestlye swim, if your a great surfer it would help to know how to swim.... however you dont need to be an expert.
