Rookie need some advice

I am an 18y/o female residing in Canada. I've always wanted to learn to surf, but never had the opportunity. Better late than never!
I know that surfing requires a high-ish level of fitness, can anyone provide a training program to prepare me for what's (hopefully) ahead?
Also, has anyone had an experience with surf camps that they can comment on?
All replies are/will be greatly appreciated!!

I think surf camps are really helpful especially if you don't have a lot of surfer friends and/or relatives.
First of all they have foam longboards for you to learn and ease the learning curve. They got instructors who usually know what they're doing, and other students that you can watch and learn from each other. I went to a surf camp and it really helped with the basics but you still need to go to the beach frequently afterwards to get decent, which is what I'm trying to do.

Parrysurf is right: The best exercise for surfing is surfing. If you cannot make it out that much, try searching this forum for surf-specific workouts. There are also a couple books/DVDs with programs out there.

Uh, but websites make money from advertising, which is attracted by number of hits, so clicking on the link is what they want you to do

Well the Canadian femals seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately

Rookie - I suggest you contact "Mel" and see if you are within an easy-ish distance from each other!

They're both in Canada - how far apart can they be?
